Biphenyl hydrazine ester, how to play the market potential?

2023 09/20

Biphenyl hydrazine is a selective foliar spray acaricide developed by the United States Kejua company in 1990 and registered in China in 2008. It has no internal absorption and is mainly used to control leaf mites and panonychid mites in fruit trees, cotton, strawberries, vegetables, tea and other crops, and has no cross-resistance with other acaricides.
The mechanism of action of biphenylhydrazine ester was initially considered as a kind of nerve agent, which has a unique effect on gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors in the central nervous conduction system of mites. Later studies have shown that biphenylhydrazine ester acts on the mitochondria of mites, inhibiting the synthesis of cytochrome bQO site complex Ⅲ. Some scholars believe that biphenylhydrazine can also have a synergistic effect on GABA-gated chloride ion channels. Although the mode of action is not clear, it is certain that it is only effective against mites.
The mode of action of biphenyl hydrazine ester is unique, which has not been fully confirmed at present and needs further study.
Biphenylhydrazine has no endoscopicity, is effective to all stages of mite life, has ovicidal activity and knockdown activity to adult mites. Safe for crops within the recommended dosage range.
In China, 43% of the single-dosage suspension agent is the absolute mainstream, and its compounding mainstream is the combination of acetozole, spiroxyl, spiroxyl and other fast-acting acaricides. Such as: spiracide 10%+ biphenyl hydrazine 30% suspension, ethacazole 15%+ biphenyl hydrazine 30% suspension.
In recent years, there have been a lot of related studies on biphenyl hydrazine ester microcapsule suspension, which is also one of the trends in the development of its future dosage forms.
The patent period of biphenyl hydrazine ester has passed 8 years, as a unique mechanism of acaricide, the market promotion situation is not ideal, the author believes that there are three aspects:
First, the synthesis cost of the original drug is high, which is sky-high compared with spiroxide and acetylene mite. However, the proportion of the main preparation of the original drug is as high as 43% (43% suspension of biphenylhydrazine ester), which is well-deserved local luxury dosage form.
Second, its rapid effect is poor, red spider is a R-countermeasure type pest, rapid outbreak, need to be combined with a strong rapid effect of acaricide to achieve good results.
Third, it should be noted that it is highly toxic to fish and high risk. It should be used away from fish ponds and prohibited in paddy fields.
